Greg DNF’s at Marysville

With new sponsors, new crew members, and new vinyl, Andy Gregg was on his way to starting his 2013 campaign in dominating fashion until mechanical gremlins knocked him out of the lead on the seventh lap of the feature event.

“We had an awesome Coors Light/LivFast Clothing/GUTS Racing car all night, but unfortunately we had a little bit of bad luck in the feature, but I can not complain with how we rolled out of the box,” Gregg said.

With 25 cars checking into the Marysville Raceway Park, Gregg got off to a strong start as he timed in with the fastest lap during qualifications in convincing fashion, picking up the Sprintcarfan.com bonus aboard his Meyers and Son Drywall/Ervin Sales/K&N backed entry.

Lining up sixth in his heat, the Placerville, CA driver made a bold move in turns three and four to go from fourth to second, as he chased down leader, Shawn Wright.

Not quite having enough time to catch Wright, Gregg settled for second, and put his FK Rod Ends/Eagle Motorsports/King Racing Products entry in the redraw, where he pulled the two, putting him on the front row.

Sharing the front row with the always tough, Sean Becker, Gregg simply motored away from the field when the green light’s flashed, opening to a near straight away lead in just three laps.

Catching lapped traffic by the fourth lap, Gregg was able to maneuver very well aboard his BR Motorsports/Hinchman/Brown and Miller machine, until the caution waved on the fifth lap, disintegrating his lead.

On the ensuing restart, Gregg again got off to a strong lead, but he began to lose power as second and third running, Sean Becker, and Tommy Tarlton closed on him.

Heading down the backstretch, Gregg’s machine came up lame, and he coasted to a stop in turns three and four, citing a mag box as the culprit.

Making the switch, the driver simply known as GUTS, restarted at the tail end of the field, and worked his way back into the top-10, missing his nose wing, but lost the handle with just two laps to go, and would end up being scored 14th.

“I can’t thank all of my sponsors, and everyone who helps on our car enough,” Gregg said. “This was a great way to start off the year, though we didn’t have the results we were looking for. We were fast all night, and I’m excited for the next race!”

Andy would like to thank Coors Light, LivFast Clothing Co., GUTS Racing, Meyers and Son Drywall, Ervin Sales Group, K&N Products, FK Rod Ends, Eagle Motorsports, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Hinchman, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, and 103.5 The Blaze for their support in 2013.
