Oxford, Michigan (Friday, March 29th, 2013): Sprint Car Veteran, Kevin Feeney, along-with Jimmy Swain, Bill Tyler and Brian Tyler have been selected for a very special trip to South Africa to compete in a four race series halfway across the world in the Thunder Sprints Series against the cars and stars of the Winged Sprint Car world pitting the stars of South Africa against the four invaders from the United States.

“I am really looking forward to our trip to South Africa; this will be my first trip there.  Over the last couple of months I have made many new friends from South Africa both Racers and fans.” Feeney remarked. “It is opportunity of a life time! I can’t thank the Saayman family enough for organizing the trip and everyone in South Africa that is making it possible. They have prepared cars for Bill Tyler, Brian Tyler, Jim Swain and I to compete with against the South African teams. It is going to be one of the biggest challenges of my racing career.” He added.

“After we arrive we have a day to prepare the cars that we will be driving for the first race.” The Oxford, Michigan veteran continued. “We will be traveling around the country competing at four different race tracks and getting a lot of windshield time exploring the country in between.” He said. Feeney will pilot the #61 Saayman Heads for Africa Winged Sprint Car for the four race series.

The series begins on Sunday, March 31st at Five Ways Race Track in Richards Bay, South Africa. From there, the tour heads to Rietkuil Raceway in Middleburg, South Africa on Saturday, April 6th before the final two events starting on Friday, April 12th at Klerksdorp Raceway in Klerksdorp, South Africa and Saturday, April 13th at The Rock Raceway in Brockpan, South Africa.

“From what I have learned the tracks are quite a bit different from what we are accustomed to competing on here in the states.” Added the 44-year-old. “They tend to be smaller and flatter, so the South African teams will definitely have a home court advantage, but we are all up for the challenge and anticipate having a lot of fun. A huge thanks to all four of the hosts tracks for doing this for us. I can’t wait to get out onto the tracks and see how we stack up against those guys.” He stated.

Once the South African trip is complete, all focus will shift towards the rest of the 2013 racing season for both Kevin and his son, 19-year-old Kyle Feeney as both competitors will be driving for Marv Carman Motorsports for the upcoming campaign. The team will make appearances in the Auto Value Super Sprint Series as well as the Must See Xtreme Sprint Series and the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series.

While his Father is on an airplane heading back to the United States after the South Africa trip, the younger Feeney will be competing in the USSA Sprint Car Challenge Series season opener on Sunday, April 14th at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana for the Glen Niebel Classic. This event will be in preparation for the 65th annual Little 500 on Memorial Day Weekend Saturday, May 25th.

“It has been a very busy year already. We have both Winged Sprint cars ready to put engines in and the Little 500 car is ready to go!” Stated Feeney as he continues preparations for the South Africa trip. “We are also in the process of rebuilding our spare cars. Kyle is preparing to run at Anderson while I’m gone and is already registered for the Little 500. It’s going to be a busy season for us both.” He ended.
