Netto Third at HK Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA

DJ Netto was in action at the Ocean Speedway on both Friday and Saturday night competing in the 3rd Annual Howard Classic as he scored a third place finish Friday night during the non-wing portion of the event before scoring a 13th place finish during the winged portion on Saturday night, on a rubber down race track.

Friday night saw Netto again shed the top-wing, as he timed in second quick in time trials to non-wing superstar, Bud Kaeding.

Starting sixth in his heat, the Hanford, CA product worked his way up to a third place finish, putting him in the feature event, where he rolled off the grid in position five.

On a very technical track, Netto worked his way up into the top three where he chased after Bud Kaeding and Dominic Scelzi.

Getting by Dominic Scelzi late in the rate for the second spot, Netto hounded Bud Kaeding, and went to the top to try and get around him for the lead, but Netto cut a rut, and bicycled, handing second back over to Scelzi, as he re-grouped and held on to the third spot at the stripe.

Saturday night, Netto bolted his wing back on his Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain/Bogie’s Auto Parts No.88N, and took on the King of the West Series.

With a very slick track greeting competitors, Netto didn’t lay the lap down he was looking for in time-trials, as he timed in 11th fastest, though it did put him on the front row of his heat race.

Feathering his throttle on the extremely slick surface in heat race action, Netto slipped back to fourth in his heat, though he still transferred to the feature, where he started in the 11th spot.

With the track taking rubber, Netto simply found the rubber and got in line, and passing was tough most of the race with the rubber beginning to take on the fifth lap.

Netto ended his night with a 13th place finish.

“I’m pleased with the weekend in general,” Netto said. “We had a really good run on Friday night with the non-wing car, and on Saturday there really wasn’t much you could do on the rubber down race track.”
