Tulsa, OK — (March 8, 2014) — After a successful showing of non-wing sprint car events as part of the series schedule last year, the Oil Capital Racing Series is returning in 2014 with more wingless action on the docket. OCRS is pleased to announce that the Jimmy Sills School of Open Wheel Racing will award the 2014 top non-wing point scorer with a free, yet highly valuable, racing school program at their Marysville, California open wheel racing facility. The program offered is valued at $1,895.

Sills is a legendary open wheel racer with a score sheet that tallies well over 400 victories. He is acknowledged in the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville Iowa having been inducted in 2006. Sills is a 3-time USAC Silver Crown Champion (’90, ’94. ’96), won the prestigious Oval Nationals in Perris, California in 1996 as well as numerous other non-wing features both domestically and overseas. Sills mastered the wing set also with multiple scores in the World of Outlaws, All Stars, NARC and various other high paying “Outlaw Events” in his career.  Noticing a need for racing education, Sills began the Jimmy Sills School of Open Wheel Racing in 1990. Due to his extensive knowledge of chassis set ups as well as driving skills, Sills is one of the most sought after open wheel instructors in the world.

The OCRS driver that earns the right to attend the program will receive classroom education and afterwards, Sills and his staff will provide and share their experience in setting up a sprint car for the ultimate performance enhancement. The OCRS driver will then work with Sills and his crew for several laps of on-track instruction. The driver and crew will discuss what the car did for a particular set up and why. Other set ups will be applied and the driver will go back onto the track to further understand such set up strategies and how to apply them properly.

Sills shared why he agreed to work with OCRS with this program: “I’m excited to give this opportunity to a racer and watch them absorb information from our classroom session and apply that to the racetrack. To watch drivers run different lines and how they adapt to them, you can tell how well they understood what we taught them. It gives us a great deal of pleasure to read the likes of Speed Sport News and see drivers who have been through our program do well.”

“I have known good ole ‘Buckwheat’ for several years,” said OCRS series president Barry Grabel. “When our PR Director came to me with the news that Jimmy was willing to work with OCRS on this awesome program, I was quite pleased for the fact that I know someone will return from his program with a great deal of additional knowledge that will be an asset to them. You can’t get a better professor. It was a pleasure to call Jimmy and give him my sincerest thanks for working with OCRS.”

The driver that earns the most non-wing points must also compete in all of the non-wing events held in order to qualify. In 2013, OCRS ran four non-wing shows. Currently, there are three non-wing dates on the schedule with a couple of more dates under consideration. The current dates are:

May 24, 2014: Osage Casino Caney Valley Speedway / Caney, KS
June 27, 2014: South Coffeyville Speedway / South Coffeyville, OK
June 29, 2014: West Siloam Speedway / Colcord, OK
