Gastonia, NC — (April 11, 2014) —  Past USCS Southern Thunder Tour presented by K&N Filters regional series Champion Johnny Bridges from Cherryville, North Carolina raced into the www.rockauto.com USCS victory lane at Carolina Speedway in the regional series season opener on Friday night. Bridges who started fifth in the USCS vs. URC North vs. South challenge event passed early race-leader Lance Moss also from Cherryville, North Carolina on lap eighteen after a restart and led the final seven laps of the 25 lap contest. Moss started from the K&N Filters Pole Position and raced home in the runner-up spot followed by 10-time series Champion Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee in third place. The 2012 Rislone URC Champion Robbie Stillwaggon from Burlington, New Jersey finished in fourth place and the evening’s Hoosier Speed Dash winner Morgan Turpen from Cordova, Tennessee rounded out the top five drivers.

 

Terry Witherspoon from Jacksonville, Florida led the next group of drivers in sixth place. USCS sprint car Rookie of the Year contender, Jay Dunham from Augusta, Georgia followed in seventh place. Veteran USCS racer, Bob Auld from Largo, Florida finished in eighth place followed by Jason Troutman from Vale, North Carolina in ninth position and Tim Perry from Mooresville, North Carolina completed out the top ten.

 

The only female racer in the sprint car field, Morgan Turpen kicked of the evening’s action by winning the 6 cars, 6 laps Hoosier Speed Dash. Three-time USCS Carolina Speedway feature winner, Eric Riggins, Jr. then won the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. URC Sprints regular won the Butlerbuilt Second Heat. After first heat winner Riggins drew a four in the K&N Filters Pole drawing, Lance Moss garnered the K&N Filters Pole Award. Jay Dunham started 15th in the main event advanced the most positions (8 places) to earn the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hardcharger Award.
