– BECHTELSVILLE, Pa. (May 25, 2014) – Alex Bright needed a good result on Sunday night, when he wrapped up an eventful week in thrilling fashion.

Bright rallied from 20th to pick up his first ARDC Midgets victory of the season at Grandview Speedway during the nonstop feature.

“My crew chief had it set up perfect,” he said. “I was kinda cautious, but I knew I had to be aggressive at the same time starting that far back. The first lap I went to the high side and everybody dropped to the middle or the bottom.”

Bright said he picked up a half-dozen positions on the opening lap and then began to pass cars one by one.

“Everybody was racing each other so nobody spread out,” he said. “I figured the track out pretty good early on. I think the first lap helped when I went to the top side so I knew it was there. Once I got to the top 10 they were top and bottom. The car just worked and I knew where it worked the best and I used that to my advantage. I honestly don’t even known when I took the lead racing lapped cars at the same time.”

Bright was told by a crew member he took over the top spot on Lap 16 and he pulled away to his fourth overall win of the season.

The night didn’t start as well as it ended for Bright, who wasn’t credited with a time during his qualifying attempt.

“Our transponder ran out of batteries and was dead, so I started in the back of the feature cars minus rookies,” he said. “I thought I would have been a top-five car (in qualifying), but we don’t know.”

That seemed to be the type of luck Bright had up until Sunday’s feature.

The competition began last Wednesday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa., with wingless micro sprints. Bright advanced from sixth to fifth place in his heat race and then from third to win a B Main, which started him 21st in the main event.

“I was up to 13th I think about 10 laps in and I got caught up in somebody else’s wreck,” he said.

Bright was unable to resume the race and he was credited with a DNF. A similar problem ended his night on Friday at Big Diamond Speedway in Pottsville, Pa., during the winged micro sprint race.

After winning his heat race from the pole and drawing the No. 8 in the feature redraw, Bright was working into the top five early in the main event when he was crashed. That ended his night early.

“About six laps in I was passing for fifth and a guy put me in the wall,” he said. “So I was having a bad weekend before that win at Grandview.”

Bright is scheduled to return to Action Track USA this Wednesday.
