TELFORD, PA. – October 21, 2015 – Paul McMahan needed to a moment to collect himself.
He had just arrived in victory lane at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway, his first victory in a five months. The Nashville, Tenn. resident was understandably emotional. After enduring a season full of ups and downs, this victory was the culmination of a great deal of hard work.
“It’s been a long time,” said the driver of the Bairs Tree Service, Nyce, Crete & Landis Block & Concrete, All-Star Performance #51. “This has been an extremely up and down season. It’s hard to believe that we haven’t won a race since May. It’s taken a lot of hard work but I think we’re finally back to where we need to be.”

McMahan and the #51 team was riding a way of momentum after a strong showing at Rolling Wheels Raceway the weekend before. The CJB organization screamed out of the gate by setting quick time for the second event in a row. From there, car #51 finished fourth in heat one and fifth in the dash. For the feature, McMahan knew crew chief Barry Jackson had something up his sleeve.
“We drew a decent number to begin the night so that always helps,” said McMahan, who has led 145 laps on the season. “We stayed consistent all night, making little tweaks here and there. Barry really has come into these recent races with a game plan and we executed on it. We tightened up the car a bit for the feature and got up to second. The track took a little rubber in the bottom of turns 1 & 2 and our car was good through the middle. On a restart, we had the outside and got around Shane (Stewart) for the lead heading into turn one. We almost gave it away later on in the race but we had some luck on our side. Overall, it was just such a gratifying deal to win for Barry, Derek and Steven, my guys. They work their tails off. We’ve brought in Sammy Swindell as a teammate and he has helped a ton. Chad and Jenn Clemens continue to give us the best of the best when it comes to equipment. It was also special to have my son and dad there in victory lane as well.”

A trip back to the northeast is all that stands between the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’ and the season ending Bad Boy Buggies World of Outlaws World Finals at the Dirt Track at Charlotte. A stop at Port Royal Speedway on Friday, October 23rd and Weedsport (N.Y.) Speedway the following night make up the final race weekend before the finals.
“Port Royal has really come a long way since I started going there,” said McMahan, who currently sits 7th in points. “Steve and the entire crew up there has made it a premiere facility and we all look forward to going there. It will be tough competition but we’re up for the challenge. We’re also looking for a great run up at Weedsport. That’ll set us up well heading into the World Finals.”
