Jonathan Allard has been red hot in New Zealand since arriving in November, and the California driver continued that trend on January 3rd as he used a late race pass to pick up his first win in 2016.

“We didn’t have much luck during the 2014/2015 season over here, so it feels nice to have such a strong campaign going,” Allard said. “Everyone has continued to work hard, and we really have a good thing going right now.”

JA lined his machine up in the third row for his first heat race on Sunday night and was able to work his way up to finish in the second spot, before earning a third place finish in his second heat.

Lining his entry up on the front row of the feature event, Allard would fall into the second spot as things got underway as he flanked Daniel Eggleton. With Eggleton out front, Allard tried to hang with the leader, but Eggleton was able to open up a sizeable lead at times during the feature.

Trying everything he could to gain ground it would look as if Allard was on his way to a second place finish until the yellow lights came on with just three laps to go in the feature event.

With one final opportunity to get into the race win, the veteran wheelman made a strong move when the green lights flashed to get Eggleton and assume the race lead.

Allard would not be denied once out front as he led the race’s final three laps to open the 2016 calendar year in victory lane.

“This was a great way to open the 2016 year, and a great way to get ready for the NZ Championship,” Allard added. “We have been fortunate to have some great people step forward and help us out this year, and it is great to grab another win for them.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-1, Wins-1, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-1.

ON TAP: Allard and the Zero Motorsports team now set their sights on the New Zealand Championship that takes place at Bay Park on January 6th.
