Jonathan Allard’s dominant run in New Zealand as of late brought the California driver big time rewards last week as he captured his second career New Zealand Title before winning the Rolling Thunder Championship.

“This has been an unbelievable run for this team,” Jonathan Allard said. “We weren’t sure how things were going to pan out with us losing some sponsorship during the offseason, but we had some great people step in, and hopefully they are enjoying the ride.”

January 6th at the Bay Park Speedway, Allard set out to earn the right to sport the No. 1NZ on his sprint car for the next year.

Lining up in the fourth row of his first 15-lap heat race, which he would acquire points to set the grid for the feature event, Allard worked quickly as he raced his way up to the fourth spot before racing from fifth to win his second heat race.

Sitting atop the points chart, Allard would earn the right to lead the field to green for the 46th running of the NZ Title.

Getting the jump on Dean Brindle when the race went green, ‘JA’ began setting a torrid pace before quickly running into lapped traffic by the race’s sixth lap.

Getting through lapped traffic beautifully; Allard would lap half the field before the caution flew with just eight markers to go. Under NZ Title rules, lapped cars stay in line, giving Allard a cushion for the final restart.

The final eight laps saw Allard get away form second place as he went on to claim his second career NZ Title.

Returning to action to go after the Rolling Thunder Championship Ring, Allard continued flex his muscle in NZ as he picked up his first heat win convincingly, before running fourth in his second heat race.

Again lining up from front row for the feature event, Allard would have his hands full with James Dahm. With Dahm trying everything he could to get by the American star, Allard would remain undefeated in the 2016 calendar year as the Rolling Thunder Win netted him the coveted Rolling Thunder Championship Ring.

“These were two huge races for us, and two huge races to win,” Allard added. “My guys have been working so hard and it feels great to reward them.”

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-3, Wins-3, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-3.

ON TAP: Allard and the Zero Motorsports team take this week off before returning to action on January 23rd at the Springs Speedway.
