DEMING, Wa. (July 7, 2017) — Midseason championship night at Deming Speedway brought a near record crowd to the facility to watch a fantastic night of racing and a huge fireworks show on top of it. Nate Vaughn won the Northwest Focus Midget portion of the program.

Heats were racing in the Northwest Focus Midget Series main event. Nate Vaughn led all twenty six laps to score his first victory in the series, but was never further than about four car lengths from second place finisher Nick Evans. Evans had restart opportunities on laps 13, 19, 20 (twice) and 24 where he’d show a nose to Vaughn inside of turn one, but Vaughn held serve every time to score the win. Evans actually drifted back to third on the final restart, as 17th place starter Colton Heath temporarily took the runner up spot away from the high side of the track only to have Evans nip it back by a slim margin at the checkered flag. Heath was hard charger, coming from 7th in the B Main to win it before advancing 14 spots in the A Main.
