The Home of the World Figure 8® is proud to have Paul Szmal on board as the voice of the 2010 USAC Wednesday Night Thunder series. The veteran vocal presence will call all the action for the United States Auto Club Regional Midgets, Ford Focus Midgets, Ford Focus Young Guns, and Mopar .25 Midgets. The dates for this heralded racing return are May 26th, June 2nd, June 9th, June 23rd, June 30th, and July 7th. Each event will see test drives and a driver school in the afternoon before preliminary heats begin at 7:15pm. We are so proud to have USAC back at the Indianapolis Speedrome®. Paul has been a part of many traveling racing series over the years such as the traveling Legends Tour, DIRT Motorsports, and Monster Jam. He has worked for tracks that include Can-Am Motorsports Park and Oswego Speedway. His face is familiar to many race fans as he was the television pit reporter for the “Rush Hour on DIRT” broadcasts throughout the late 1990’s. Szmal has had a major presence on the radio as well. He has worked in several top markets from Illinois to New York including the mighty Clear Channel broadcasting company.
Paul last joined us at the Speedrome as the official lead announcer for the INEX Bandolero Nationals in 2008. He has been a major part of several World Figure 8® Championship broadcast as well as being the emcee at our annual awards banquet. On several occasions, Paul has joined forces with Speedrome microphone man Don Walker in the booth for race calls including the Snowball 100. “I love the Speedrome and its great brand of short track racing”, said the New York native. “The track has been a spring board for many a racing career and I cannot wait to see all the young stars during these USAC events.”
