HOLLY, Mich. – A spectacular lineup of sprint car talent from across the eastern U.S. and Canada will converge on Salem Speedway this coming Saturday, May 8, for the Winged Sprint Spectacular. The event serves as the season opener of the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series presented by BIOBASED, promising lightning-fast action on Salem’s historic half-mile oval.

Defending race champion Chad Goff of Whitmore Lakes, Mich. will face formidable competition, including past series stars Dave Steele, Jason Blonde, Jeff Bloom, Ryan Litt, Tim Cox, Jimmy McCune, Hank Lower, Jim Swain, and Sondi Eden.

A significant number of new stars have joined the series for 2010, bolstering the Salem roster to a “who’s who” of open wheel short track racing. Indiana’s Jacob Wilson, Canada’s Mike Ling, and an impressive cadre of Florida racers including Blaze Martin, Bo Hartley, Troy DeCaire, Travis Miniea, and Dude Teate promise to make the Winged Sprint Spectacular a true showdown.

Also notable is the introduction of several fan-based initiatives by the series for 2010. Product giveaways and a wide assortment of elements to boost the entertainment experience for spectators promises to make the Salem opener memorable. The event will be televised on a tape-delayed basis, reaching over 70 million American households. Well-known broadcaster Rick Benjamin will serve as play-by-play host, while Hall of Fame driver Tom Bigelow will provide color commentary. Longtime writer and broadcaster Dave Argabright will serve as pit reporter.

The Xtreme Sprint Series features powerful winged sprint cars with 800-plus horsepower and are considered the world’s fastest short track racing machines. Based in Holly, Michigan, the series enters its second season of competition in 2010.

North Carolina biotechnology company BIOBASED USA ( www.biobased.us ) has joined the series as a presenting sponsor. BIOBASED is a manufacturer of Soy Soap and other green products, and is owned by sprint car entrants Don and Suellen Wilshe.

Spectator gates open at 3 p.m. on Saturday, with time trials set for 5:45 p.m. Heat races get underway at 7 p.m., with the 30-lap Winged Sprint Spectacular serving as the finale.
