PA Classic Takes Center Stage Port Royal Speedway

All Star Circuit of Champions

by Kelly Brown – Public Relations Director

Camargo, IL (5-5-10) –This
weekend a legendary event at Port Royal Speedway is going to be ran. The
O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions will be traveling to Pennsylvania
again this weekend, so that can only mean one thing – it is time for the
Bob Weikert Memorial. Two consecutive nights of racing will feature
high-speed racing action between the All Stars and PA Posse on Saturday,
May 8 and Sunday, May 9.

This weekend’s All Star PA Posse clash will mark the 8th running of the Bob
Weikert Memorial, but Port Royal has been a part of the All Star schedule
for more than a decade. The inaugural race for the All Star Sprint Circuit
of Champions at Port Royal was run in 1981 with Dave Wickham as the victor.
Since then the track has been the host of 19 All Star events. Former
winners of the Bob Weikert Memorial include: Fred Rahmer, 2003, 2004; Todd
Shaffer, 2005; Dewease, 2006; Greg Hodnett, 2007; Jeff Shepard, 2008 and
Stevie Smith, 2009. This weekend’s event will be unique since the winner in
the first night of racing action will automatically be locked into the
feature on the second night, so there in an incentive for doing well on
night one.

Last year Stevie Smith swept both nights of racing action at Port Royal
Speedway. On night one he battled pole sitter Todd Shaffer. It was a
thrilling night of racing as Shaffer and Smith traded the lead several
times before Smith got an edge and drove on to victory. On night two, the
All Star versus PA Posse rivalry took the spotlight as Smith and three-time
All Star Champion Dale Blaney battled for the win. At the end of the night
though, Smith would get through traffic more smoothly than Blaney and drive
on to Victory Lane.
