TONY JONES AND ALEXANDER TEAM READY FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND DOUBLEHEADER

by Lance Jennings

TORRANCE, CA – MAY 25, 2010… This weekend, “The Cowboy” Tony Jones and the Alexander Racing Team will return to action with the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series. The Memorial Day weekend doubleheader begins Saturday at the Perris Auto Speedway, followed by the Sunday event at Tulare’s Groppetti Automotive Thunderbowl Raceway. The “Salute To Indy” weekend shows at both race tracks are a popular tradition with Sprint Car fans in Southern and Central California.

In just three starts in the 2010 campaign, the 2007 USAC/CRA Champion currently sits thirteenth in the series point standings. At USAC/CRA’s last race on April 10th at Perris, “The Cowboy” earned “Hard Charger” honors with a fourth place drive after starting eighteenth.

With a break in the series schedule, the team traveled to the Victorville Auto Raceway on May 1st. Jones piloted Mark Alexander’s Scott Sales Company #4 “silver bullet” to a heat race win and second place finish in the feature.

In 2006, Tony drove the Alexander car to his first career USAC/CRA victory at the “Salute To Indy.” In true “Indy tradition,” Jones climbed the Perris fence, wore a winner’s wreath, and sipped milk after his win. Since then, Tony and the Alexander Team have scored nineteen more feature wins.

On Sunday, the team will return to the Tulare oval where they last competed in 2007. At that event, Jones led the first twelve laps until a miscue bounced the silver #4 off the outside fence. “The Cowboy” soldiered on to a sixth place finish despite the loss of his right front torsion bar and arm.

Celebrating their 20th year in racing, the Alexander Team would like to thank Scott Sales Company, LaVilla Mexican Restaurant, Ferreira Dairy, VP Racing Fuels, Extreme Mufflers, Larry Murakami Contracting, SCRAFAN.COM, Zanzabuku Sports Lounge, Garnica Trucking, Berdoo Auto Body, Scotty Stallmo Trucking, Ray’s Trucking, So-Cal Performance, J&D Performance, VGI Graphics, and Reliable Energy for their support.
