By Tommy Goudge

(July 20, 2010) – The eighth round of Ohsweken Speedway’s Friday Night Thunder hits the track this Friday, July 23rd. This week’s event is presented by Outhouse Image and Design and Wiseco Piston, and features “Christmas in July” with Santa Claus, plus a Toy Drive, and Autograph Night. The rescheduled Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Cars “Mid-Season Championship” will run on Friday, along with the ESSO Thunder Stocks, ESSO Mini Stocks, Bombers, and a Chain Race!

The Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car stars will be competing in a twenty-five lap Mid-Season Championship event presented by Wiseco Piston this Friday night. Dave Dykstra of Port Colborne continues to lead the Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car division standings, though his advantage is down to just ten points. Kyle Moffit of South Dayton, New York charged through the field after early problems last week to finish second in the ESS vs. Corr/Pak “Battle on the Grand” feature, and gained on Dykstra as a result. Alton’s Keith Dempster is third in the standings, followed by Campbellville driver Kevin Job, and Glenn Styres of Ohsweken. Dave Dykstra remains the only repeat Sprint Car winner at Ohsweken in 2010 and has two feature wins total, while Tom Huppunen, Dain Naida, Dustin Daggett, Steve Poirier, and Kyle Moffit have claimed wins as well.

Billy Bleich of Port Robinson still leads the ESSO Thunder Stock standings, but he also saw his lead dwindle last week. Cambridge driver Jamie Cox got his first feature win of the season last Friday night, and is now just twelve points behind Bleich. Caledonia’s Lee Winger is now third in the standings, followed by Jeremy Bean of Stoney Creek, and Caledonia driver Ryan Dinning. Billy Bleich and Devin Habiuk each have two feature wins in the ESSO Thunder Stocks this season, while Jamie Cox, Lee Winger, Shayne Pierce, and Mike Thorne have one each.

Welland driver Trevor Goulding continued his excellent season last Friday night, charging from eleventh on the grid to finish second. Goulding’s lead in the points chase sits at fifty-one over Brantford’s Craig Erskine, who is followed by Kevin Hilborn of Brantford, Ohsweken driver Paul Goodale, and Steve Miller of Paris and Waterford’s Mark Thorne tied for fifth. Trevor Goulding has claimed three feature wins this season, while Abel Castelein has two, and Craig Erskine and Steve Hess have one each.

Jesse McDonald got his first Bomber feature win of the season last week, but Dundas driver Karl Sault continues to hold a commanding points lead. Kacey Huffman of Hamilton is second in the standings, followed by Shawn Ireland, Jesse McDonald, and John Cote.
