Justyn Cox press release

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 23) – The result Friday wasn’t ideal for Justyn Cox.

The 16-year-old from Clarksburg, Calif., drove from ninth to fifth in his Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour B Main at the Cottage Grove Speedway, which was only two positions shy of a transfer to the 30-lap feature.

However, it was the 20th different race track Cox has driven on this season in 32 races. Oregon was also the 11th different state he’s raced in this season.

“Tonight was a tough track to handle,” Cox said. “I started to figure it out and gain some momentum throughout my B Main, but it just wasn’t enough to earn a transfer.”

A provisional also wasn’t in reach for Cox, who entered the race 15th in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour points. Two drivers in the top 10 in National points utilized the two provisionals.

Cox enters Saturday’s finale at the Cottage Grove Speedway 16th in National points, but only 94 points out of the top 12.

“It’s been a close battle between a bunch of us to stay in the top 15 this season,” Cox said. “Tonight hurt a bit in points, but hopefully we can make it up tomorrow.”

Jason Johnson won the feature with Brady Bacon, Seth Bergman and Shane Stewart locking themselves into Saturday’s feature with top-four finishes, respectively.
