As race teams gear up for the final stretch of the North American season, Brian Montieth and Team XXX continue building toward a big finish. Montieth took his 5th win of the year this past Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, coming from 12th place to score the victory. Other Team XXX winners in August include Brian Kristan, Ryan Grubaugh, Danny Smith, Alan Munn, Justin Youngquist, Brian McDonald, Aaron Fell, Matt Westfall, Koty Adams, David Gailley, Quinton Benson, Ryan Beechler and Brad Ryun.
Those that are superstitious dread Friday the 13th. But not the Edge. Brian Montieth of Phoenixville won his third race of the season at Williams Grove Speedway Friday night, taking the lead from Rick Lafferty with five laps to go in the 25-lap 410 sprint main. Montieth garnered over $4,000 for his victory, the seventh of his career at the oval.
Brian Kristan continued his tear through the Upper Midwest this year, as his third XXX chassis victory came this past Saturday night. Competing at Wilmot Raceway in the 410 division, Kristan and Mike Kertscher traded sliders all over the racetrack, with Kristan eventually coming through on top. Congratulations Brian!
Ryan Grubaugh took a hard fought win over the ASCS Sprints on Dirt Saturday night at Butler Motor Speedway in MI. After starting second, Grubaugh stalked the race leader for the first eighteen laps. On lap 19, Grubaugh found his opening, taking over the lead and securing the win. The victory also extended Ryan’s ASCS SOD points lead.
There was a lot of effort put into Danny Smith’s OCRS victory on Saturday night. After his hauler blew a tire getting to the track, Smith barely got to the track in time to undertake hot laps. From there, the night got progressively better as Smith ran his way through the field to take the lead on lap 23 and subsequently his second race win of the season.
Alan Munn was victorious for the second time on the year in the Budweiser 360 Sprints at Skagit Speedway. Munn led all 25 laps for the victory in the Munn Construction #42 XXX. Munn was challenged late by second place finisher Brock Lemley, a fellow Team XXX driver. Kelsey Carpenter took third place late in the Dri Eaz #29 XXX after Jared Peterson spun out trying to make a move on Lemley. In other Skagit Speedway action, fortune once again smiled on Justin Youngquist as he went on to win his second straight Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprint Main Event . Driving his Bubba Suds Car Wash #56 XXX, Youngquist inherited the lead on lap 9 and paced the field comfortably until lap 17, when lapped traffic and a hard charging Dylan Dunham reared their collective heads. When the dust settled, Youngquist held of Dunham for his second straight win in the Sportsman Sprints by a mere .057 seconds.
Three Team XXX drivers were hard after Friday night’s Empire Super Sprints main event win. When the dust settled, Brian McDonald held off Dan Kaszubinski and Chuck Hebing to record his first win of the year and third career with the ESS, all coming in XXX chassis. McDonald led every lap of the race, with Hebing challenging early, then Kaszubinski coming on strong late, the latter taking the lead for a split second on the 24th circuit.
Aaron Fell led all 25 laps of the 1200 Mini Sprint Main Event on Friday night August 6th at Deming Speedway. Fell was the fastest in time trials by two tenths of a second on the 1/6 mile clay oval, then followed the quick time up by wiring the field in the main, keeping all challengers at bay. This past Friday night, Aaron graced Deming Speedway’s victory lane for the sixth time this year in his XXX 1200 mini sprint. Fell led all twenty five laps of the A Feature from the outside pole. Fell continues to lead the Deming points chase as well. In other mini sprint news, Quinton Benson has been warming up over the second half of the year. After picking up his first race win of the year in his XXX 600 mini sprint on July 10th in the A Class division, Benson was again on top of the mountain a little less than a month later, as he beat the 24 car field at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex for his second W of the year. field for the win.
Matt Westfall has been smoking hot in his XXX non-wing sprint car. After taking second place on Saturday night the 6th at Waynesfield Raceway Park (where he leads the points), Matt hauled out to Indiana where he took top honors at Lawrenceburg Speedway for his 4th XXX chassis victory of 2010 on Sunday the 7th.
Koty Adams has made a strong late season charge as he looks to capture the Southern Thunder Sprints season championship. Racing at Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Lousiana, Adams picked off his fourth straight feature win with the series, leading all 25 laps of the main.
David Gailley won the A Feature two weekends ago at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Texas. After winning his heat race, Gailley led the final twelve laps of the main event en route to his first victory in his XXX chassis. David, one of the top sales reps at Smiley’s of Dallas, says his XXX chassis is “…a great car and quality craftsmanship!”
Ryan Beechler was victorious again in Texas. Driving in the 305 division at Kennedale Speedway Park, Beechler won another A Feature, besting the 14 car field for the win. In other 305 action, Brad Ryun became the latest Team XXX member to put his XXX chassis in victory lane at Valley Speedway in Missouri. Driving the BRE Powered house car, Ryun won Friday nights A Feature for winged sprint cars.
