WINNER TAKE ALL LEGENDS OF ASCOT MATCH RACE PURSE REACHES $5,200.00!

From Scott Daloisio

(OCTOBER 19, 2010, PERRIS, CA) In less than 11 days, the purse for the winner take all “Legends of Ascot Match Race” that will be held this Saturday night, October 23rd at Perris Auto Speedway, has grown from $2,500.00 to $5,200.00! The showdown match race will feature Tony Jones, Danny Sheridan, David Cardey and Rip Williams. In addition to the match race, there will be a full Amsoil USAC/CRA program that will feature Damion Gardner, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, USAC Western Dirt Young Guns and the WRA Vintage Cars. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00. Also, beginning at 10:00 AM the 6th Legends of Ascot festivities will take place a couple hundred feet from the track (for more information on the Legends of Ascot visit legendsofascot.com). Saturday is a military night at The PAS and any current military member with proper id will be admitted free.

“I want to thank Bobby Michnowicz and all of the people who have jumped on board to sponsor the match race,” PAS promoter Don Kazarian said. “Bobby has done a tremendous amount of work in a short period of time and in a week and a half the purse went from $2,500.00 to over $5,000.00. We hope and think it will grow even more by race time. It should be one of the most exciting events in the 15 season history of Perris Auto Speedway.”

Among the many who have donated (the complete list is below) is racings famous Agajanian family. They promoted the last west coast Sprint Car match race of such stature at legendary Ascot Park in Gardena in the 1980s. “The Agajanian Family is proud to be a part of the “Legends Of Ascot Match Race” and we wish all the participants good luck,” J.C. Agajanian Jr. said last week. “I’m sure Aggie is looking down on The PAS right now and smiling on all that are present, both racers & fans.”

The match race will be run under normal USAC/CRA rules. It will consist of four separate four-lap races. Each car will start off each starting position one time. Points will be awarded in a 6, 5, 4 and 3 system in each race. In the event of a tie in points after the four races, the drivers who are tied will comeback for a two-lap showdown match race for all of the cash. “If this comes down to a two-lap shootout for all of that money, the excitement and the tension generated will be incredible,” Kazarian said with a laugh. “Actually, I hope it comes down to that. With the match race, the return of Damion Gardner for the USAC/CRA portion of the show, Focus Midgets, Western Dirt Young Guns and the WRA Vintage cars there will be something for everyone. The show is going to capture the spirit of the past, present and the future of open wheel racing on the west coast.”

Kazarian and Michnowicz would like to acknowledge the following for their contributions to the “Legends of Ascot Match Race.”
