In only his third appearance of the 2010/11 season, Cameron Gessner last Saturday night at Brisbane International Speedway recorded yet another solid performance with a third place finish in the opening round of the World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Championship.

With a third place in latest round of the Queensland Series, followed by a front running performance at Sydney Speedway and then last weekend’s podium finish in WSS Championship opener, Gessner has certainly started the season off on the right foot.

“I’ve been very happy with our speed and consistency in our opening shows of the season and now the goal is to just build on these results and hopefully turn them into wins,” the QLD # 68 Metalcorp / AUS Fuel supported Cheetah driver enthused, who had earlier in the night qualified sixth in time trials, followed by a eighth and fourth place in his two heat races and then placed third in the pole shootout. “In each of our three appearances this season we’ve been right up there in the running. This has been one of the strongest starts that I’ve made to a season and a lot of credit must go to the continued hard work of my team.”

Gessner’s podium result in the WSS Championship opener has certainly proven that he means business throughout the 2010/11 season and he is looking to be a genuine contender on any given night.

“Anytime you can walk away with a podium finish is a huge achievement,” commented Gessner, who admitted that he was a little conservative towards the end of last weekend’s feature race and it denied him of possibly a higher spot on the podium. “During the winter break we haven’t made too many changes to last season’s package and the difference I think is that we’ve got more track time under us and that is starting to pay dividends.”

This Saturday night (November 27) the WSS Championship heads to Toowoomba’s Charlton Raceway for the second round and Gessner has his eyes fixed on yet another solid result.

“I competed last season at Toowoomba on four occasions and I ended up with two wins and two crashes, but I hope that it’s the former, not the latter outcome this weekend,” he remarked. “I’ve done a lot of racing around Toowoomba over the years and I’m heading there with the intention of winning. It’s a tough deal, as Sprintcars are just so competitive these days and it only takes a little slip up to leave you behind the eight ball.”

For the 2010/11 season Gessner and CG Motorsport team are proudly supported by Metalcorp, AUS Fuel, Direct Haul, Breast Cancer Australia, QLD Speedway Spares, Greenies Tippers, Fabmac and Scott Inglis Race Engines.
