Shaffer picks up where he left off…winning an All Star feature

All Star Circuit of Champions

Ocala, FL (2-4-11)– New year same results…Tim Shaffer
picked up where he left off in 2010 – winning an O’Reilly Auto Parts All
Star Circuit of Champions sprint car feature.

Shaffer, who was the hottest 410 sprint car driver in the nation last year,
opened the 28th Annual All Star Winter Nationals at Ocala Speedway Friday
night, with his sixth straight All Star feature win. Shaffer, who has won
the last two All Star championships, has now won 11 of the last 13 series’
features and now has 36 career All Star wins.

>From the start of the night it appeared that the man to beat might be Tony
Stewart Racing’s Donny Schatz. Schatz qualified next to last and turned a
blistering 13.039 on his second lap to take the Kistler Engines Fast
Qualifier Award. He then PA Posse member Aaron Ott major fits in the dash
race for starting positions. But Schatz’s night would end early with a
spectacular front stretch flip in the feature as he became entangled in
some lapped traffic. After racing ended Tony Stewart was spotted assessing
the damage to Schatz’s machine in the pit area, as the team attempted to
regroup.

Shaffer may not have set the fastest qualifying time, but in the dash for
starting positions he rose to the top and remained there to nab the pole
position for the feature.

Traffic is always a problem in the tight and odd shaped confines of Ocala
Speedway, but between cautions that gave Shaffer clear track ahead, and his
own skill at dealing with slower machines, he managed to avoid obstacles
and maintain his lead. Early chasers like Ott and Schatz slipped back and
were replaced by Daryn Pittman and Tyler Walker late in the race, but
Shaffer held on to claim victory in the 25 lap event.

Shaffer drove the Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook Motorsports, Kistler Racing
Products, Kistler Racing Engines backed #83 to the victory over
Pennsylvania Posse members Daryn Pittman, Tyler Walker and Aaron Ott and
three-time All Star champion Dale Blaney.

The win gives Shaffer, “The Steel City Outlaw,” the lead in the new All
Star point system for the Eastern Region. In 2011, the All Stars will have
an Eastern Region which includes the Winternationals and races in Central
Pennsylvania, New York, Canada and other events in the east.
