Reidy’s Top 5 Result

By Daniel Powell

A fifth place finish in last weekend’s Australian Sprintcar Open at Brisbane International Speedway brought mixed emotions for Danny Reidy.

In what was a solid drive to work his way up to fifth after he had started the Australian Open deciding feature race from position five, Reidy struggled throughout the 40-lap distance by condensation in his helmet that hampered his vision.

“I felt that we probably could’ve finished higher than we did, had we not suffered the drama with the helmet,” Reidy explained. “We had a really good car on what was a demanding track and having a drama with my vision certainly didn’t help my driving a lot.”

Reidy’s night started off by qualifying 10th in time trials and he then finished fifth in the opening race, which was hampered by a slower car that denied him of a higher result, and then placed fourth in the second heat race. These results earned Reidy enough points to take part in Dash 2 and he finished fourth, which gave him his position 10 starting spot in the feature race.

The main focus for Reidy now is preparing his Buggy for the annual Finke Desert Race in his home town Alice Springs, Northern Territory, on the Long Weekend of June 11-13. Reidy is unsure of how many Sprintcar race meetings he’ll do for the remainder of the season, but has confirmed that he will contest the ‘$5,000 to Win’ Crispy Memorial event this Saturday night (May 7) at Brisbane International Speedway.

Reidy would like to thank Desert Palms Resort in Alice Springs, Titan Plant Hire, Camden Neon Signs, P & M Motor Body Repairs, Gonzo’s Race Pipes and Inglis Race Engines for all their support throughout the 2010/11 season.
