– HIGHLANDS, Texas (July 24) – It’s been a month since Channin Tankersley has been on the track.

“A long month,” the 20-year-old from Highlands, Texas, said. “I’m more than ready to get back out there.”

After a washed out weekend two weeks ago, Tankersley hasn’t raced since his top-10 finish at Jones Motor Speedway in Chatham, La., on July 3. He will get his next opportunity with the ASCS Gulf South Region on Friday at Heart O’Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas. Both races are also sanctioned by the ASCS Lone Star Region.

Tankersley doesn’t have the best memory of Heart O’Texas, a ¼-mile, high-banked dirt oval where he crashed in his only appearance this season. In fact, Tankersley was battling for the lead when he tangled with a lapped car in the final laps on April 1.

“That was a tough deal,” he said. “But I like the track. It’s a hammer-down little joint and it’s really racy.”

Saturday marks the return to the Devil’s Bowl Speedway, where Tankersley hasn’t raced since he competed with the ASCS National Tour on March 25-26 at the Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals.

“That was an up-and-down weekend,” he said. “We broke while leading a B Main on the first night. We did a little better on the second night.”

Tankersley claimed a B Main win on March 26 to advance to the prestigious feature, where he finished 13th.

“I love that track,” he said. “We’ve just always done well there. You have to be really smooth to be fast there. I think the combination between the car and me being comfortable has been the biggest factor.”

Tankersley is fifth in the ASCS Gulf South standings, only 24 points out of fourth place.
