SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Selinsgrove Speedway returns to racing action at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 13, with an open wheel doubleheader featuring the Rislone United Racing Company (URC) touring 360 sprint cars and the A&A Auto Stores central Pennsylvania 358 sprint cars.

Also on the racing card will be the Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center late models in a 25-lap feature and the Collier Paving & Construction roadrunners in a 12-lap race. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.

A fan favorite for many years at Selinsgrove, the open wheel double will feature each sprint car division in a complete series of qualifying events and 25-lap features. Both divisions will also utilize their respective handicapping systems to set the starting fields for Saturday’s main events.

On May 14, the Jack Gunn Memorial was a URC-sanctioned challenge race between the two sprint car divisions. Invader Shane Stewart of Indianapolis, Ind., held off Selinsgrove’s Blane Heimbach for the win in a 360-powered sprint car.

Entering this weekend’s racing action, the “Jersey Jet” JJ Grasso of Pedricktown, N.J., leads the URC standings by just 81 points over Curt Michael of Ocean View, Del., while Heimbach leads the 358 sprint car standings by 130 points over TJ Stutts of Liverpool. Ironically, both Grasso and Heimbach lead their respective divisions with three feature wins to date this season.

The track’s lone URC race last year was won by Heimbach over Davie Franek of Wantage, N.J., who is a one-time winner on the 2011 URC tour. Several of Selinsgrove’s weekly 358 sprint car drivers are expected to do “double duty” by competing in both divisions this Saturday.

On Saturday, Sept. 3, Mach 1 Chassis will be the title sponsor of the 11th Annual National Open for 358 & 360 sprint cars. The winner of the 35-lap main event will earn $8,000 out of a purse totaling more than $36,000! The rain date, if needed, will be Sunday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.

Track officials also announced today the 13th Annual Late Model Open that was rained out last Saturday has been rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 27. The purse and other details for the rescheduled Late Model Open will be released this weekend.

Selinsgrove Raceway Park will present a program of go karts, micro sprint cars, and slingshots at 7 p.m. this Friday, Aug. 12. Three-time winner and defending champion Todd Hoover of Mt. Pleasant Mills holds a mere 80-point lead over three-time winner Tyler Snook of Beavertown in the Selinsgrove Ford micro sprint car point standings.
