OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY RACES FOR AUTISM THIS FRIDAY NIGHT

by Tommy Goudge

(August 25, 2011) – The season is winding down at Ohsweken Speedway, but there’s still plenty of racing action left, including this week’s edition of Friday Night Thunder. “Kids Race” presents the Mod-Lite Stars Championship Tour North racing for the Canadian National Autism Foundation this Friday, along with the Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Cars, Lighthouse Tattoos Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Pierced Parts Bombers.

CANADIAN NATIONAL AUTISIM FOUNDATION
Ohsweken Speedway is honoured to host the Canadian National Autism Foundation for Friday’s benefit race night for autism. The Canadian National Autism Foundation promotes the positive enhancement and quality of life for people with autism in Canada. The CNAF was formed to provide funding for educating the general public and professionals, providing information and resources to families of children with autism, providing funding for Canadian-based research and development, and promoting national autism awareness. Please visit www.CNAF.net to learn more about the Canadian National Autism Foundation, and find out how you can help.

MOD-LITE STARS CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR NORTH
Shawn Sliter leads the Mod-Lite tour standings, and has won four of the five features held for the series so far this season. Three of those meetings have come at Ohsweken, where Shawn is undefeated in 2011. Shawn’s nephew Josh Sliter won the most recent round in the series at Merrittville Speedway on July 30 however, and sits second in the standings as he tries to defend his 2010 championship. Beamsville’s Paul Klager, Jason Corless of Bolton, Mount Hope driver Jeff May round out the top 5.

CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING SPRINT CARS
The Sprint Cars are back to regular racing this Friday with Fenwick driver Jim Huppunen at the top of the standings. He holds a 21 point lead over Tilbury’s Kyle Patrick with 3 races left in the championship chase. Burford driver Jamie Collard enters this week’s event third in the standings, but holds a hot hand, as he claimed the $2,000 Northern Summer Nationals win last Friday night. Collard is the 12th different winner in 13 Sprint Car features held at the track this year. Kyle Moffit of South Dayton, NY is fourth in the standings, followed by Brantford’s Mitch Brown.

LIGHTHOUSE TATTOOS THUNDER STOCKS
Caledonia’s Mike Thorne padded his points lead by racing from 16th to 3rd in last Friday’s Thunder Stock feature. Thorne holds a commanding 95 point lead over fellow Caledonia driver Ryan Dinning heading into this week’s race. Cory Turner of Caistor Centre is up to 3rd in the standings, and has a healthy lead in the race for Rookie of the Year. Cambridge’s Wyatt Van Wart and Devin Habiuk of Port Robinson round out the top 5.

HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Dundas driver Karl Sault’s once commanding lead in the Mini Stock standings vanished entirely last week when he failed to finish the feature, while Abel Castelein of Cayuga finished 5th. Those 2 drivers are now tied for the lead, while Caledonia’s Mike Evers has slipped to 3rd. Jake Brown of Brantford is 4th, followed by Burlington’s Jeremy Hughes.

PIERCED PARTS BOMBERS
The Bomber division points lead changed hands last Friday as Caledonia’s Jesse McDonald got the feature win and now leads Waterdown driver Rodney Rutherford by 11 points. Sarah Rutherford of Dundas, Hamilton’s Jeremy May, and Brantford driver Kathi Dickie round out the top 5.
