RYAN LITT: BOUND FOR BRISTOL

by Tommy Goudge

– September 27, 2011 – London, Ontario: Ryan Litt and the #07 BS&B Radiator Sprint Car team have had a lot of time to prepare for the final Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car series event of this season this Saturday, October 1 at the famed Bristol Motor Speedway.

Ryan and the team last competed on August 20 and 21 at Anderson Speedway and Winchester Speedway, both in Indiana. Ryan collected a runner-up finish at Anderson, and finished 6th at Winchester. The team heads to Bristol in a 3-way fight for the Xtreme series title, just 2 points behind leader Troy DeCaire, and 2 points ahead of 3rd place JoJo Helberg.

“I’m super excited for Bristol,” says Ryan. “We’re sitting only 2 points out of first, and I believe we have what it takes to bring this championship home. We have great equipment, and everyone on my team works hard to ensure nothing gets overlooked heading into a race.”

The Bristol event was a late addition to the schedule, but it immediately became the focal point of the season for many drivers, teams, and fans when it was announced. It is perhaps the world’s most notorious short track, and Ryan is one of many racers looking at the event as one of the most important of their careers.

“I have thought about this race every day at least 20 times,” says Ryan. “It’s all I think about. It seemed to take forever getting here, but I’m more than ready to do battle. I’m going to do everything in my power to run strong this weekend. My goal is to qualify up front and win the race. This is one of the biggest races of my life on one of the most famous racetracks in the world. I’m sure there’ll be a lot of eyes on us this weekend.”

This weekend’s activities are taking place in part because of a successful test session held at Bristol in March when Jason Blonde set a new track record of 13.245 seconds in the “Bristol Speed Record” event. It included Sprint Cars, Supermodifieds, production cars, and motorcycles, and Jason’s fast lap is more than 1.6 seconds faster than the NASCAR Sprint Cup series record.

Ryan and his fellow competitors are well aware of that test, and they’re ready to take on the challenge of racing side-by-side on the high banks now. Fortunately, many of them have experience racing at other high-banked half mile tracks such as Salem Speedway and Winchester Speedway.

“I think it’s going to be a lot like Winchester, but with a smoother surface and a lot more grip,” says Ryan. “I think it will lead to more speed, and hopefully more grooves. With the faster speeds, tire wear will also come into play, which should allow the smart drivers to get up front.”
