Austen Wheatley Has Rough Go in Attica Debut

PETERSEN MEDIA

– Lake Stevens, WA shoe, Austen Wheatley spent his weekend competing with the All Star Circuit of Champions and also made his first stop at the Attica Raceway Park, and the youngster took his lumps at the Ohio facility.

Friday night Wheatley kicked is night off by timing in 23rd quick with a very strong field of cars, but the time would not help him later in the night.

After winning his heat race, Wheatley and his Redlined Welding & Construction/Oil Medics/Wolfweld No.44 lined up for the feature in the rear, and Wheatley struggled a bit and ended up 22nd.

“Friday wasn’t too much fun,” said Wheatley. “It was our first night there, and I think we learned some things for Saturday, but regardless you are never excited about nights like that.”

Qualifying on Saturday was below standard as well as he qualified 30th quick, but later in the night would be quite more eventful for the Wheatley Motorsports team.

Finishing fifth in his heat from the last row, Wheatley again qualified for the feature where he would like his King Racing Products/BR Motorsports/Astro Titanium backed entry up in the 23rd position.

Wheatley’s night was going much better than it did on Friday, and the youngster had worked his way up through the stout All Star field at the Attica Raceway Park.

Working his way up to fifteenth Wheatley began to battle the likes of Tony Stewart, Brad Sweet and Joey Saldana.

As the group traded slide-jobs with each-other, Wheatley had made a move on Stewart, and Stewart ran up over Wheatley’s right rear, and the duo slid off the track.

Back under speed, Wheatley was able to salvage a 19th place finish to cap off his night.

“I really don’t know what the deal was with Stewart and myself,” explained Wheatley. “We were all in a group sliding each-other, I felt I cleared him, but we ended up making contact. Other then that, it was a much better night then Friday, so hopefully we can start reeling off some better finishes here soon.”

Austen and his team would like to thank King Race Products, BR Motorsports, The Oil Medics, Wolfweld, Redlined Welding & Construction, Schoenfeld Headers, Astro Titanium, BMRS, Fire-Down Graphics and ButlerBuilt for their support in 2012.

ON TAP: For now, Wheatley tentatively has plans to continue on with the World of Outlaws as they return to action April 13th in Paducah, KY.
