Waiting…

The 2012 sprint car season is in full swing! In some parts of the country. Fans are flocking to smell the methanol and hear the roar of the engines! In some parts of the country. Checkered flags are waving and trophies are being hoisted! In some parts of the country. For Jerrod Hull and the crew of the Heartland Trailer Manufacturing #12 Maxim, it’s been all about waiting though.
The defending 2011 Midwest Open Wheel Association Champion has been to the track 4 times this year only to see 1 checkered flag fly over a feature and consistent weather related delays. This past weekend’s action at the always exciting 34 Raceway was no exception…RAIN!
“I think we have a pretty good program this year, we just haven’t had much luck with getting the season really started,” stated the Sikeston, Missouri native. “We would love to have an opportunity to show off our supporters and be able to say their names in victory lane, but we have found ourselves saying, ‘Grab that umbrella!’ too much.”
Hull was performing as a hired gun for car-owner Dale Oaks at the famed 3/8 mile facility and felt he had a pretty good car underneath him. A pretty good car turned into a rocket ship that was checkered flag worthy after some adjustments by his long time crew, but rain prevailed and dampened hopes of a strong run.
“The car was really strong at the start of the night but had a few issues. Once we took it to the pits, Scott (Bonar) and the rest of the crew got to work doing what they do and made it into a really nice piece to work with. The only thing I think we couldn’t have outrun Saturday night was Mother Nature. Wow, she was on it!”
This weekend, Hull begins his quest to repeat as the Midwest Open Wheel Association’s Champion beginning at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Illinois. The Midwest Open Wheel Association is embarking on their 2nd season looking to capitalize on the success of the inaugural season.
“We feel that racing with MOWA gives our sponsors the right mix of exposure here in the Midwest. The staff with the series does a great job of announcing our supporters and becomes an assistant in our motorsports marketing ventures in promoting those who keep us going week in and week out.”
