Tulsa, Oklahoma (5-14-2012) – Following a three week layoff, the 2012 Griffith Truck & Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region fires continues the campaign this weekend with a Saturday night outing at Battleground Speedway.

It will be only the fourth ASCS Gulf South visit to the high banked 3/8 mile oval, but the second American Sprint Car Series visit to the Highlands, Texas based venue following the inaugural Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by MavTV visit to Battleground Speedway on Aprlil 14th.

Danbury, Texas native and reigning Griffith Truck & Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region champion Ray Allen Kulhanek has maintained a strong effort in his title defense. Thru eight events of Gulf South action, Kulhanek has been kept out of victory lane, but consistent finishes have Kulhanek at the top of the early season point standings.

On the strength of a pair of top five runs at the end of March and three consecutive top ten finishes, Kulhanek leads Missouri City, Texas native and fellow past ASCS Gulf South titlist Brandon Berryman by 52 markers with Alvin, Texas native Michael McNeil another six points behind Berryman following McNeil’s first career ASCS feature victory in Gulf South competition at the inaugural ASCS event at Killeen’s Texas Thunder Speedway.

This Saturday’s run at Battleground features the first of three visits to the Highlands, Texas for the 2012 Griffith Truck & Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region and the ninth event of an impressive 26 race slate for the Gulf South competitors.
