(Chico, CA 6-13-12)…When the Hoosier Racing Tire California Sprint Car Series returns to the Wells Fargo Silver Dollar Speedway this Friday night, June 15th, all of the drivers will be racing with heavy hearts. “It’s all about racing in the memory of David Tarter this Friday night,” said six time Civil War Champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn. “It was a pleasure to get to watch David progress as a sprint car driver. He definitely earned my respect as a sprint car driver.” Forsberg and upwards of 35 drivers will take to the quarter-mile clay oval speedway to compete during round number six. Joining the winged sprint cars will be the ultra competitive Mini Stocks.
Front grandstand gate will open at 5pm. Sprint car qualifying is slated to begin at 6:30pm. Racing will follow the sprint car qualifying. Adult general admission is $15.00. Juniors are $12.00 and children $6.00. After the National anthem is played, the speedway will honor David Tarter with four drivers doing a four wide salute to our fallen friend. Leading the group will be David’s brother, Michael, driving his brother’s car.
Sacramento’s Kyle Hirst leads the brigade of talented Civil War drivers into this Friday night event. Hirst won the main event on May 26th at Marysville Raceway Park. He holds a five-point lead over Colfax driver Colby Wiesz. The most recent winner on tour, Andy Forsberg, sits in the third spot and is only six points behind Hirst. Cameron Park’s Stephen Allard is fresh off a Saturday night points win at Placerville Speedway. Allard sits in the fourth spot. Rounding out the top five in points is Elk Grove’s Greg DeCaires. Local favorites include John Michael Bunch, Mason Moore and Tyler Wolf.
“It still doesn’t feel right to be racing this weekend without David,” said Mason Moore. “It was an honor to be asked to be a part of his memorial lap. I will race with a heavy heart this Friday night.”
The always entertaining Mini Stocks will be led by Jason Clayton, Howard Law and James Foster. All three drivers are at the top of point’s battle. Opening night main event winner Shaun Merritt sits in the fourth spot while the most recent winner and crowd favorite Misty Castleberry is fifth. Only six points separate the top five drives after two rounds of racing at the speedway.
