Peoria, AZ — (October 1, 2012) —  Winged Sprint Cars tackle the Canyon Speedway Park clay this Saturday night as the ASCS Southwest Region makes its third appearance of the year at the 1/3-mile oval.

Saturday’s tilt, which gets under way at 7:00 p.m., also includes ASCS2 Micro Sprint Cars, Southwest Mod Lites, Pure Stocks and Bombers.

Leading the winged Sprint Car ranks into Saturday’s action is Las Cruses, NM, shoe Rick Ziehl, who is closing in on a fifth consecutive ASCS Southwest Region championship.  Ziehl, who topped the April 7 event at CSP, enters the night with a 117 point edge over Scottsdale’s Lance Norick, with Peoria’s Dalten Gabbard, Joshua Williams and Mike Martin rounding out the current top five.

While Ziehl topped the first Southwest event at CSP, Billy Chester claimed his first series win in the most recent stop on June 16.

Saturday’s event will serve as one final chance for the winged Sprint Car ranks to get dialed in before the 45th Annual Western World Championships on November 15-17.

Josh Castro and Adam Milsap have each scored a pair of ASCS2 Micro Sprint wins at CSP, though Ryan Walter topped the most recent feature on September 22.

A.J. Martin added his second Southwest Mod Lite win on September 22, though Tony Martin remains atop the win charts with three triumphs.

Atop the Pure Stock point charts, Chris McCurdy, Jr., scored his first win this past Friday night with Ty Weidner adding a Pure Stock best fifth win of the year the following night.

Although Nick Langer topped both nights of Bomber action this past weekend, he still sits 11 points behind Joe Peterson on the point charts.

Tickets for this Saturday night’s racing action at CSP are $15, with a $2 discount for Military, Seniors and Students.  Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free.  VIP passes are available for $20.
