Crawley races to Fall Brawl win at Magnolia Motor Speedway

By Pete Walton

Columbus, MS – Oct. 20, 2012 – The current United Sprint Car Series presented by Goodyear National points leader, Tim Crawley from Benton, Arkansas raced the final eleven laps of the USCS “Fall Brawl” sprint car final into the www.rockauto.com USCS victory lane at Magnolia Motor Speedway on Saturday night after early race leader Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee led the first nineteen laps, then tangled with K&N Filters Pole Position starter, Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas on lap nineteen. Crawley who was in third place at the time took advantage of the incident that ended Gray’s evening and sent Hagar to the rear of the field on the re-start two thirds of the way through the 30-lap contest. Crawley assumed the point after the caution came out for their mishap and raced the final distance with 2010 USCS Southern Thunder regional series Rookie of the Year, seventeen year-old Eric Riggins, Jr. from Charlotte, North Carolina dogging him until the final corner. Riggins who was having one of his best finishes of the seasons, had to settle for the runner-up spot.

Behind Riggins, past USCS Champion, Marshall Skinner from Marion, Arkansas charged from his fifteenth starting position all the way to third place to accept the K&N Filters Podium Award. Anthony Nicholson from Bartlett, Tennessee, who won the evening’s Engler Machine and Tool First Heat followed in fourth place. Hagar re-started after the tangle with 10-time Champion, Terry Gray and rallied back to fifth place at the end.

Young gun Casey Rowland from Nesbit, Mississippi who started 12th in the main event, led the next group of drivers with a sixth place finish. Veteran Southaven, Mississippi driver Wade Oliver finished in seventh place followed by twenty year-old Jon Stinson from Memphis, Tennessee in eighth position. The 2010 USCS National Rookie of the Year, nineteen year-old Morgan Turpen from Oakland, Tennessee, the only female driver in the sprint car field, apparently collected some of the debris from the Gray/Hagar tangle. She had to pit for a right rear tire while running in the top five and charged back to ninth place. Another young gun Dalton Davis from Millington, Tennessee rounded out the top ten drivers.

The 2008 USCS Rookie of the Year, Anthony Nicholson kicked off the USCS sprint car portion of the night’s action packed USCS Fall Brawl racing card with a win in the 6-lap Goodyear Speed Dash. Nicholson then returned to the www.rockauto.com USCS victory lane with a win in the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat Race later in the evening. Terry Gray captured the checkered flag in the Butlerbuilt Second Heat for the sprint cars. Nicholson then drew Derek Hagar to the K&N Filters Pole Award/Position. Former series Champion Marshall Skinner charged past 12 other drivers in the A-Main to earn the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger Award.

Skinner also collected the K&N Filters Podium Award for his third place finish. The JE Pistons Top Guns Award went to Anthony Nicholson who finished fourth. Derek Hagar collected the fifth place position Keizer Aluminum Wheels Top Five Award and the DMI/Bulldog Top Ten Award went to Dalton Davis.
