(Lebanon, IN) Cordy Horn broke Spencer’s Bayston’s run of wins with a convincing victory in the 30-lap Mel Kenyon Midget Series US 24 Speedway event on Saturday June 8. Horn survived a serious lap next to the last lap challenge from Grant Simpson to take the win by just .25 tenths of a second.
Simpson started the race on the pole while Horn started on the inside of the 4th row. The complexion of the race changed when Clayton Gaines spun in turn two, bringing out the red flag when Travis Young flipped in the melee. Jessica Bean and Gaines, who had been running in the top five, were unable to restart following the red flag period. Young was able to restart.
Point leader Bayston clawed his way up from his last row starting position to take a last lap shot at Simpson coming off turn four on the last lap. Simpson held off the charge to claim the second spot, with Bayston finishing third. Travis Young and Kent Kriegbaum filled out the top five positions.
