CASA GRANDE HOSTS USAC SOUTHWEST SPRINTS THIS SATURDAY

PEORIA, AZ – JUNE 18, 2013…USAC United States Auto Club Southwest Sprint Car Series Logo tease Located on the Pinal County Fairgrounds, the action packed card will also feature Mini Sprints, Pure Stocks, and AMA Modlites. The Spectator Gates will open at 4pm and Racing at the fast 3/8-mile oval is set to begin at 7:00pm.
Heading to this weekend’s action, R.J. Johnson of Phoenix has a 63 point advantage over the competition. Racing Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson scored third at Queen Creek’s Arizona Speedway on June 8th. To date, the point leader has six wins in 2013 along with five heat race victories, two Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash wins, one hard charger award, ten top-10 finishes, and 127 feature laps led. This Saturday, R.J. will have his sights on adding a Casa Grande feature win to his resume.
Buckeye’s “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. is second in championship points. Piloting the Massey Motorsports’ #50 RSS Industries / Rod End Supply RSS, Davis claimed his second win of the year at Arizona Speedway. Currently, the five-time Arizona Champion has three heat race victories, two Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash wins, one semi-main win, one hard charger award, ten top-10 finishes, and 61 feature laps led. The veteran driver will be looking to score the $1,500 victory at Central Arizona Raceway.
Sitting third in the standings is “The Magic Man” Mike Martin of Yuma. Driving his #16 Ultimate Offroad / Naquin Precision Earth Moving Maxim, Martin placed sixth at Queen Creek. To date, the USAC National “Hall of Fame Classic” champion has one feature win, one fast time award, four heat race victories, seven top-10 finishes, and 24 feature laps led on the year. “The Magic Man” will have his sights on the 30-lap main event win at Casa Grande.
Phoenix’s Shon Deskins is fourth in the point chase. Racing his #20 Performance Plus / Ellis Race Cars machine, Deskins ran second to Davis at Arizona Speedway. The veteran driver has yet to win a feature but has four heat race victories, one hard charger award, and seven top-10 finishes on the season. Shon will be looking to breakthrough with a victory this Saturday night.
Ronnie Clark of Tucson is fifth in the point standings. Piloting the family owned #6 RCM / Ellis Race Cars machine, Clark ran eighth at Queen Creek. As this writing goes to press, Ronnie has yet to claim a win in 2013, but has one heat race victory and six top-10 finishes in the campaign. Like Deskins, Clark will have his sights on the $1,500 win at Casa Grande.
Among the other drivers expected to be in action are Chris Bonneau, Josh Pelkey, Stevie Sussex, Andy Reinbold, Justin Quinn, Brian Hosford, Bryan Swinehart, Mike Bonneau, Tom Ogle, “The Radio Flyer” Bruce St. James, “The Bullet” Bob Ream Jr., James Aragon, Nathan High, Steven Harms, and more.
Central Arizona Raceway is located on the Pinal County Fairgrounds at 512 S. 11 Mile Corner Road in Casa Grande. To get to the track, take Exit 194 from Interstate 10, then head east five miles to 11 Mile Corner Road, then head south.
