Tulsa Oklahoma (September 10, 2013) – It’s time once again for the running of the Oklahoma State Championship sprint car race. This will be the 7th edition of the OSC and as with the past six OSC events, the Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada, Oklahoma will play host while the Tulsa Oklahoma based Oil Capital Racing Series functions as the sanctioning body of the event and it all takes place this Saturday night with racing starting at 7:30pm.

In the past six OSC events, there has been great parody in who becomes the OSC champion. There have been five different winners to take home the coveted acrylic trophy that is presented to the OSC winner. Only Moore Oklahoma’s Whit ‘Gasman’ Gastineau has scored two of those OSC collectors’ trophies. His first was in 2010 with his second coming in last year’s edition of the OSC.  The other four drivers to capture the OSC crown are: Mike Goodman (2007), Danny Smith (2008), Andy Shouse (2009) and Gary Owens (2011).

Speaking of parody, as we have alluded to for the past few weeks now, the OCRS series has seen more winners in 2013 than in any of the prior OCRS seasons. 2013 points leader Harli White scored her seventh A-Feature last weekend at Tri-State Speedway in Pocola Oklahoma. After White’s triumph’s, the parody is very pronounced as there have been 11 different winners in the other 12 races held to date. Therefore, it would be of no surprise whatsoever to see a sixth OSC winner this Saturday night.

“This race has just evolved into a special event for our series,” commented OCRS president Barry Grabel. “George Welch does a fantastic job with his racetrack and he has been a stout supporter of OCRS. George always has a good crowd when we come to town and our relationship in working together is one of the best in the business and we couldn’t possibly thank George and his staff enough for all they do to accommodate our series.” Grabel then went on to say: “The fans are just as awesome as they are the most vocal on our tour in terms of their interaction with the OCRS staff and drivers. T-Shirt sales speak volumes in the fact that it shows us how interested the fans are in the OCRS series. Every time we go to Oklahoma Sports Park (Saturday will be visit #3 in 2013), t-shirt sales are amazing.”

OCRS extends their “Get Well Wishes” to Mike Peters. The legendary Wichita Kansas pilot was scheduled to compete in this years OSC event but Peters suffered an injury last weekend at an NCRA event in Nebraska. Peters is expected to make a full recovery but he will be out of racing action the remainder of the 2013 season.

“GET WELL SOON MIKE!”
