BILLINGS, Mont. (Aug. 18, 2015) – Travis Rilat scored his second ASCS Frontier Region victory in the past four races last Saturday at Billings Motorsports Park.

It marked Rilat’s fifth victory of the year and his fourth with car owner Richard Saumure, who is also known as Frenchie.

“Frenchie called and figured out we weren’t racing anywhere,” Rilat said. “Montana is about the closest place for him to go race and they were racing so we decided to head there. We had a great car both nights and a successful trip.”

Rilat kicked off the weekend on Friday at Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont., where he powered from seventh to third place during a heat race. That locked him into the feature redraw where he pulled the highest number – eight – to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.

“We were able to maneuver in the heat to get us in the redraw,” he said. “But the track rubbered up. I was able to make some moves in the first two laps to get myself into second. That was where she laid. It was locked down.”

Rilat’s runner-up result was his 16th top five of the season and gave the team momentum entering Saturday’s event at Billings Motorsports Park, which began with Rilat advancing from third to second place during a heat race.

He once again made the feature redraw and this time pulled the No. 3 to start the main event on the inside of the second row.

“I took the lead about eight or nine laps into the race on a restart,” he said. “The leader went to the bottom on the restart and I sailed around the top. I pulled away after that.”

The win extended Rilat’s podium streak to six straight races with Saumure.

Rilat is scheduled to compete this Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and Saturday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.

“It’s kind of funny how I met (Shark owner) Marc Huson when I went up there to Washington for an ASCS National Tour race and Triple X Race Co. was next door,” Rilat said. “I was wandering around talking on my cell phone and saw a sprint car next door. I walked over, looked around and introduced myself.

“He’s been a great friend. He was instrumental with a support group for me and my family when I was in the hospital up there. He and his wife helped us out in a hard time. As far as his engine skills go, he’s one of the best in the country. There’s only a handful of great engine builders across the country and I consider him one of the best.”
