Bergman wins USCS feature at Magnolia

Magnolia, MS — (February 27, 2016) — Seth Bergman from Snohomish, Washington charged to a convincing win in the United Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters 20th anniversary season opener. Bergman started from the fourth position, then avoided a tangle that took out third starting 2013 USCS sprint car Champion, Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas and three other drivers. On the re-start, Bergman charged past K&N Filters Pole Position starter, Anthony Nicholson from Millington, Tennessee on lap two and raced his way into the www.rockauto.com USCS Victory Lane for his first series win to collect the $2500 winner’s share. .

The first lap wreck and consequent red flag and re-start occurred when Derek Hagar spun and collected Howard Moore from Memphis, Tennessee, A.G. Raines from West Memphis, Arkansas and local Buster Dickerson from nearby Caledonia, Mississippi. Hagar was able to continue after the restart but, the evening was over for the other three drivers.

After the restart, Bergman raced past Nicholson who held down the runner-up spot on lap two. Nicholson held that position until lap seven when Matt Covington from Tulsa, Oklahoma raced past to assume the position. On lap ten, veteran Hall of Fame driver Danny Smith from Chillicothe, Ohio assumed the runner-up spot.

On the next lap Covington got the spot back for keeps. On this lap Hagar also jumped back into fourth place after recovering from going to the back of the 22 car field. Brandon Hanks from Burleson, Tennessee also moved into the top five positions.

By lap fifteen, Nicholson replaced Hanks in the top five for good. On lap 21 Hagar got past Danny Smith for the third position while Bergman charged through lapped cars in dominating fashion.

At the finish line it was Bergman, the winner with Matt Covington in the runner-up spot followed by Derek Hagar in the K&N Filters Podium Award third place. Veteran Danny Smith finished in fourth place and the 2008 USCS Rookie f the Year Anthony Nicholson rounded out the top five.

Brandon Hanks led the next group of finishers in sixth place. Former series champion and four time 2015 USCS feature winner Marshall Skinner from Marion, Arkansas finished seventh. The 2015 Riverside International Speedway track Champion, Andy McElhannon from Nesbit, Mississippi finished in the eighth position followed by 11-time series National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee in ninth place. The 2015 USC National Champion and the only female driver n the field, Morgan Turpen from Cordova, Tennessee rounded out the top ten drivers in the star studded field.

Derek Hagar kicked off the evening’s racing action by scoring the win in the Engler Machine and Tools First Heat. Anthony Nicholson charged to victory in the Brown and Miller Racing Solutions Second Heat, Seth Bergman took the victory in the Schoenfeld Headers Third Heat.

Seth Bergman was the provisional pole-starter after he scored the most passing points in heat race action, After a four was rolled on the K&N Inversion Die, Anthony Nicholson received the K&N Filters Pole Award and Pole Position for the start of the 30-lap event. Kyle Amerson from Montgomery, Alabama who passed the most cars in the A-main (six) to grab the night’s Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger Award also won the UCS 600 mini sprint earlier in the evening.

The United Sprint Car Series presented by K&N continues their 2016 schedule on Friday, April 1st at the new All Tech Raceway in Lake City, Florida. The traveling series completes a two-night Sunshine State double-header with an event on Saturday, April 2nd at Bubba Raceway Park n Ocala, Florida.
