ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 5/8/10 ‑ “Finally!,” was the first word out of Adam Wilt’s mouth following his first career 410 Sprint car feature Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway.

Wilt started eighth in the field, took the lead on lap six and checked out from the field as he took the 25-lap feature win by 2.52 seconds over runner-up Brent Marks.

“It just feels like we would never get one here,” said the young York driver after collecting the $3,000 payday in the Wide Open Motorsports owned #15 sprinter. “I mean I’ve been getting around this place pretty well and we’ve been so close. I should have had two wins at this place last year but that was just rookie mistakes. That don’t count this year.”

Wilt, the 2009 National 410 Sprint Car Rookie of the Year drove by Kevin Nagy on the fifth lap as Nagy then lost the handle to bring out a yellow flag. Wilt assumed command on the restart as young Brent Marks followed into the runner-up spot.

The final 19 laps of the event went non-stop as Wilt extended his advantage over the field despite working through heavy lapped traffic during the final laps. Wilt nearly hit the wall with five laps to go but managed to collect the car without major incident.

“I about lost it up there in turn one but whenever you are in the lead, you gotta run the car hard every lap because you have guys like Fred Rahmer coming behind you and you need to get through traffic,” Wilt stated. “My new crew chief Brian Boughter has this thing dialed in and it just rolls. We’ve been fast right off the trailer this year and it feels good to finally get a win here.”

Marks settled for the runner-up spot followed by another young racer Gerard McIntyre, Jr., 10-time track champion Fred Rahmer and Alan Krimes.

Defending champion Brian Montieth crossed in sixth ahead of Cory Haas, Doug Esh, Jim Siegel and 24th starting Tim Shaffer, the 2009 O’Reilly All Star Sprint champion.

Heats for the 30 “410” Sprints were won by Gerard McIntyre, Jr., Fred Rahmer and Josh Wells. Johnny Mackison, Jr. won the consolation.

Adrian Shaffer started on the front row of the 20-lap 358 Sprint car feature and drove off from the field to score his seventh career win in the Pigeon Hills.

After battling mechanical woes during the makeup feature earlier in the night, Shaffer was flawless in the non-stop feature that was delayed by a rain shower for about a half hour.

Derek Frohlich finished second over Mike Bittinger, Eric Tomecek, Brook Weibley, Troy Becker, Tim Wagaman, Steve Owings, Dale Hammaker and Ted Thomas, Jr.

Heats for the 33 “358” Sprint heats were won by Mike Bittinger, Adrian Shaffer, Scott Fisher and Derek Frohlich. Kyle Moody won the consolation.

After two consecutive red flags to start the makeup 20-lap 358 Sprint car feature, Hamburg’s Keith Prutzman led flag to flag to score his first career win at Lincoln.

Prutzman’s 20-lap time of 5:23.87 erased the old 20 lap track record set by Greg Leiby on June 30, 2001. The former record was 5:38.80.

Defending track champion Jeff Rohrbaugh finished second ahead of Dale Hammaker, Tim Wagaman and Nicole Bower with Glenndon Forsythe, Eric Tomecek, Ted Thomas, Troy Becker and Todd Rittenhouse, Jr. completing the top 10 finishers.

Next Saturday night, May 15th, at 7 PM, Lincoln Speedway will host a three-division, four-feature show as the Lawrence Chevrolet 410 Sprinters will be joined the Thundercars and the 358 late models. In addition to the regularly scheduled event for the thundercars, they will also run the make-up feature for the rained-out event from April 24th.

Gates will open at 5 PM and hot laps get underway around 6:30 PM.
