Visiting a pair of tracks for the first time in his young career, Rico Abreu posted a 19th place finish in Las Vegas before scoring a 16th place finish at Perris Auto Speedway against the World of Outlaws.

Thursday night in Vegas, the youngster went to work figuring out the tricky Las Vergas track as he timed in 25th quick, and ultimately had to race his way into the A from the nights B-main.

In the B, the track proved tricky for everyone, and Abreu worked his way up to the top 15, as the 30-lap race hit the halfway point.

Abreu began to continue to gain confidence over the final laps, until trouble broke out on the 32nd lap.

Austen Wheately lost a right rear tire and came to a spinning stop, and Abreu’s Abreu Vineyards/Kaeding Performance/Swift Metal Finishings machine collided with the stalled car, and Abreu would have to tag the rear.

Over the final eight laps, Abreu would hang on to the 19th spot.

Heading back to his home state of California, Abreu got off to a better start in Perris as he began the night with the 16th fastest lap in qualifications aboard his Stadlehoffer Construction/Santomauro/Factory Kahne Shocks entry.

A light tumble in his heat again forced the St. Helena youngster to race into through the Last Chance Qualifier.

The main event clicked off 40-laps in a single file affair, as the field all hung around the top of the speedway and passing was at a premium.

From his 15th starting spot, Rico held his spot in line and came across the line in the 16th spot.

“My guys gave me a good car both nights, but it’s pretty tough coming to these big tracks for the first time, especially against the Outlaws,” said Abreu. “It’s fun getting to these places because I’m used to the smaller tracks back home, but it was nice getting back in the seat.”

ON TAP: Abreu will now make his first start of the season aboard his Keith Kunz midget as he will be in Cowtown, TX for a POWRi midget show on March 16 and 17.
