Fife Lake, MI — (June 22nd, 2012) — The first of two appearances by the Davison, Michigan based Michigan Traditional Sprints Series highlighted a great night of racing at the fast 3/8s (0.375) mile high-banked dirt oval of Cherry Raceway, located southeast of Traverse City in Fife Lake, Michigan as the hi-flying Non-Winged Sprints visited the “Great White North” for the first time in 2012.

The Main Event of the evening, the Michigan Traditional Sprints Series rolled out for their 25-Lap Feature and the front row consisted of John Watson and Nick Bostrom and it would be Bostrom grabbing the early lead. Just three laps in, Former Three-Time Series Champion Steve Irwin rocketed by for the lead and soon he was trailed by Bostrom who tried in vain to keep pace with the leaders.

Defending Series Champion Joe Bares from near-by Traverse City, Michigan would get up to second and try to reel in the veteran Irwin and Bares would do just that thanks to some heavy potential lapped traffic that Irwin was careful to negotiate through. With 10 laps to go, Bares suffered a right rear flat tire and was forced to pit. This gave second spot back to Bostrom who tried again to keep up with Irwin’s torrid pace.

However, Irwin, the veteran from Davison, Michigan wouldn’t be denied as he would steer his #1 Allstar Performance machine to victory lane after scoring the Feature triumph. Bostrom finished second while Bares roared back to score the final podium position in third. Mike Austrauskas and Inaugural Series Champion from the 2006 season Joe Irwin were the top five. S. Irwin, Bares, and Kevin Hawk would collect the Preliminary Heat Race Wins.
