June 25, 2012 –The 2012-13 season of World Series Sprintcars will launch with a bang when Adelaide hosts round 1 of the series on Boxing Day.

While in previous years the WSS calendar commenced late in November, series organizers felt the benefits of a shorter schedule and avoiding the stressful pre-Christmas period. Launching the series on Boxing Day will be a fantastic start to the championship for both teams and spectators.

“World Series management decided to shorten the WSS season to help the traveling teams with costs of being on the road,” commented WSS Race Director Shane Collins. “The obvious solution was to eliminate the pre-Christmas round which also may reduce risk for some venues with regard to inclement weather as well as some issues attracting spectators including families with the  lead up to Christmas”

Travel costs for contracted teams also factored into the decision.

“We also feel that the schedule now makes it easier for teams from southern and western areas of the country, as there is now only one sweep across the country and no doubling back.”

From Adelaide, the series will travel through SA and Victoria to crown a Speedweek Champion, before a blockbuster 2 night event in Brisbane for the Australian Open on January 4th & 5th.

“Speedweek again will showcase the best week of Sprintcar racing anywhere in Australia, and already plenty of interest has been shown by competitors both here and abroad,” commented Collins. “With Speedweek now kicking off the series, it will be very interesting to see who will lead the championship heading to the Australian Open in Brisbane”

Another exciting feature of the 12/13 calendar: World Series Sprintcars much anticipated return to Sydney Speedway for a 2-night extravaganza on January 18 & 19.

“The return of Sydney Speedway into WSS is a major positive for both parties,” said Collins. “WSS is a showcase of Australia’s best Sprintcar teams and overseas competitors, so to be heading to one of the nation’s premier venues is a logical move.”

“Sydney Speedway is also home to one of the best local competitor groups in the country, so this event has the potential to be a landmark show that will find a home on the national calendar for many years to come.”

Sydney Speedway Manager, Rebecca Seymour was thrilled to lock in the event.

“We are excited about the fact that World Series Sprintcars is back at Sydney Speedway. A lot of hours have been spent in recent weeks which has led to this announcement and we are thrilled with the outcome.”

Following Sydney, teams will have a brief respite before Speedway City hosts its second round of the series on February 2nd. The round will coincide with the prestigious George Tatnell Cup to create the third consecutive WSS super show of the new year, and an event that is sure to become a landmark event on the Australia speedway calendar.

Following the Adelaide round, teams will depart for the western swing of the championship, beginning in Manjimup on February 8 and Albany the following night.

The series then heads to Bunbury for a 2 night show, before culminating at the state-of-the-art Perth Motorplex in late February.

“The western leg of the series has now been condensed to be weekend racing only,” explained Collins. “We feel this helps both the competitor and the venue, as teams and competitors with business commitments can return home for work, and venues can maximise their attendance.”
