Burlington, IA — (May 21, 2013) — 34 Raceway has been a good track for Joey Saldana.

In both of his races at the 3/8-mile oval, Saldana has qualified in the top eight, finished in the top two of his heat race and nearly claimed the main event. So it’s more than obvious that Saldana is excited for the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series to return to 34 Raceway for the first time since 2009 on Friday, June 7.

“The two times I’ve been there we’ve had speed,” Saldana said. “It’s a cool track. It’s a neat facility. It’s the type of place you want the Outlaws to go. It puts on a good race.”

In the 2008 inaugural event at the semi-banked track, Saldana won his heat race and started fifth in the feature. He was charging toward the lead when a broken rear end sent the car to the pits before the checkered flag was waved.

Saldana continued toward the front the following season when the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series made its second-ever visit to 34 Raceway. Saldana won the dash and led the first 11 laps before five-time series champion Donny Schatz took over the top spot.

The duo raced side-by-side throughout traffic before Saldana regained the lead with four laps remaining.

“It was a good race between me and Donny Schatz,” he said. “I got him in lapped traffic, which you don’t see often.”

Tony Bruce Jr. earned his only World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series feature victory in the 2008 event.
