Port Royal, PA — (March 27, 2015) — Impending afternoon rain has forced Port Royal Speedway to cancel the Thursday, March 26 practice session slated for tonight from 6 – 9 pm.

With afternoon and late day rains and a storm front predicted on a work night when the practice was slated, it seemed the most prudent move was to call off the practice in plenty of time for everyone involved to plan accordingly.

Beyond that, the extreme harsh winter temperatures expected Saturday in the area has also forced officials to again cancel the planned season opener slated for Saturday night, March 28.

Again, with nighttime lows both Friday and Saturday nights slated for around 20 and a high of 36 forecast for Saturday, prudence has dictated the move in an effort to protect the new racing surface, the racers and their equipment and the fans themselves.

Thus, the 2015 Port Royal season opener is now planned for next Saturday, April 4 with a moved up starting time of 5 pm.

And another attempt at a practice session will be made, next Wednesday night, April 1, from 6 – 9 pm. The practice will be open to any division slated to appear on the 2015 schedule of events.

On Saturday, April 4, racing action at 5 pm will include 410 sprints, super late models and the first appearance of the year by the River Valley Builders 305 sprints under the PASS banner.

April 4 will be Easter Night at the speedway with the first 200 youth entering the main grandstand receiving a free chocolate Easter rabbit. In addition, a youth egg scramble will be held in the infield just prior to the heat races.

Also at the opener, the first 600 fans entering the main grandstand will receive a free 2015 schedule magnet courtesy of Juniata Beverage.

The 410 sprint winner’s share for the opener is $3,600 including $100 of which is posted in honor of late speedway champion Richard “Dick” “Pete” Swarmer as posted by his son Steve.

The super late models will compete for $2,000 to win in the opener.

All division’s heats and feature events will find starting grids set by draw.

The same starting time of 5 pm will again be used for the Saturday, April 11 program featuring the 410 sprints, super late models, Gray’s Auto & Towing 355 econo late models and the All American Outlaws.

April 11 will also be $1 Hot Dog Night at the track with limited admission Kids Bus Rides slated around the oval.
