Indianapolis, May 18, 2011– Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and the United States Auto Club (USAC) have joined forces to present the Elite 8 Midget Series. The series consists of eight races, each individually themed. All events will take place at the Bryant Heating and Cooling Systems Indianapolis Speedrome. The first race, on May 25, is part of the Mopar D1 Midget Series and themed IUPUI-College Night.
During IUPUI-College Night, students with valid high school or college ID’s will receive free admission to the event, while accompanying family members will receive $5 admission. The night is expected to draw in a large crowd of college as well as high school students and their families.
Mopar D1 is the final stage of the USAC Developmental Ladder. In this series, drivers experience the complete feel of full powered USAC Midget cars. This allows them to hone their skills before advancing to the ranks of the USAC Mopar National Midget series. Midget cars feature a very high power-to-weight ratio and typically use four-cylinder engines; a combination that makes Midget racing an exciting event for both spectators and participants.
At the Indianapolis Speedrome, drivers compete on a paved track, measuring 1/5 mile. Due to weather cirumstances, this race in Indianapolis will mark the first race of the series.
