Gas City, IN – (July 13, 2012) – Bryan Clauson kicked off Indiana Sprint Week in style by winning the opening night feature Friday at Gas City I-69 Speedway.  Clauson battled almost the entire race with Levi Jones for the lead, pulling away at the end of the race for the victory.   Clauson was driving a Fisher powered Maxim chassis.

“I knew we were faster than Levi, but I had a hard time putting laps together without a mistake to get him,”  said Clauson.  “We ran a lot of local races, doing our homework, to get ready for (Indiana Sprint Week) my crew guys have this car on a rail right now, and it makes a big difference in my confidence this year.”

Jones and Darren Hagen started on the front row for the 30-lap feature.  Jones drove into the lead while Clauson motored around the top to move into second place by lap two, and challenged Jones for the lead.  From there Clauson and Jones raced side by side for the lead, swapping lines at each end of the race track.  Clauson continued to try to pull a slide job on Jones in turns one and two, then going up to the cushion in three and four while Jones ran the bottom.  Clauson claimed the lead on lap four, but drove off the end of the race track, handing the lead back to Jones as the duo continued to battle side by side.

Even a caution that collected Tracy Hines and Hunter Schuerenberg and a flip by Andrew Elson did not cool off the heated battle between Clauson and Jones.  Clauson eventually got by Jones for the lead and began to open up a three car length lead with 10 laps to go.  Jones found himself under siege from Darland and 10th starting Jon Stanbrough.  Jones, Darland, and Stanbrough continued to race while Clauson motored away to the victory.  Stanbrough nipped Jones at the line for second while Darland and 9th starting Shane Cottle rounded out the top five.

Brent Beauchamp was the fastest qualifier over the 47 car field with a lap of 11.901 seconds.  Coleman Gulick won then non-qualifiers race and promptly raced into a transfer spot during the first heat race.  Cottle, Kevin Thomas, Jr, Schuerenberg, and Robert Ballou won the heat race events while Stanbrough won the Semi Feature.
