Sydney Struggles for Madsen

The return to the Sydney Speedway did not go as Ian Madsen would of hoped, as engine woes plagued him early, and a mid race spin forced him to the back of the pack as he ended up with a 15th place finish.

“I hope we had our bad night Saturday, instead of this weekend during the Darley,” he joked.

The night got off to a rough start for the Watson’s Express Transport/Australia Wide Towing/Lucas Oil products No.11 machine, as motor engine hampered qualifications.

Timing in a dismal 20th quick, Madsen proceeded to capitalize on his front row starting spot in his heat race, and won, putting his EJF Engineering/Mike Hughes and Partners/City Access Scaffolding machine in the seventh row for the feature event.

As the feature got underway, Madsen went to work on figuring out to how wheels his ultra tight car.

“She was tough to operate,” Madsen said. “We had it a bit snug, and I couldn’t do much of anything.”

Trying several lines to make his car maneuverable, Madsen ended up spinning out late in the feature, after finally breaking into the top-10.

Restarting at the tail of the field, the current track points leader, held on and finished in the 15th spot.

“We had some cobwebs after being off for a few weeks,” he said. “It was good to get back together before the big one next week.”

Madsen would like to thank Watson’s Express Transport, Australia Wide Towing, Lucas Oil, EJF Engineering, Mike Hughes & Partners, City Access Scaffolding, Blackshaw’s Motor Body Repairs, ButlerBuilt, and Factory Kahne Shocks for their continued support.
