Donny Schatz is having a season for the ages. Not since the days of the prime of Steve Kinser and Doug Wolfgang has a driver rolled through the sprint car world like Schatz has this season. Internationally Schatz has 26 victories this season with 20 of them coming in World of Outlaws competition. To win nearly half of the races in what is the toughest sprint car series in the World is nothing short of remarkable.
Last night’s Hoosier Hundred featured a 29 car field of USAC Silver Crown cars with 27 starting the feature. Compared to just a few years ago this is a complete turnaround for a series that was on life support. Having the Silver Crown division alive and healthy is good for open wheel racing overall for a multitude of different reasons.
