Mother Nature decided to give Ohsweken Speedway’s race teams and fans an extra week to get ready for the 2010 season, but now the sky has cleared and it’s time to go racing! Ohsweken Practice, Staff Meeting, and Opening Night Cancelled

In what is hoped not to be a pattern this season, Ohsweken Speedway management has been forced to cancel all activities at the speedway scheduled for today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday – May 14). Persistent rain and cool temperatures all week has prevented track staff from working on the racing surface and standing water in the pits and parking lot only indicate a recipe for trouble if we were to go ahead as planned.

While the Ohsweken Speedway sits silent awaiting the roar of racing engines in May, the Speedway staff have kept busy this winter. Ohsweken webmaster ImageFactor.ca has worked on revamping and renovating the Speedway website over the past few months, while Director of Racing Operations Ken Pelkie has put together another exciting schedule for the upcoming season, and continues to spend time on the road promoting the Speedway and its signature event – the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals.

HUPPUNEN HONOURED AS 2009 OHSWEKEN SPRINT CAR CHAMPION

The 2009 Ohsweken Speedway season was capped off in fine fashion on Saturday night with the annual awards banquet at the new Marritt Hall in Ancaster. Tom Huppunen was honoured as the second champion of the Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car division, while Shayne Pierce was crowned ESSO Thunder Stocks champion, Mitchell Brown claimed the ESSO Mini-Stock title, and Karl Sault was honoured as champion of the Bomber division.
