EAGLE, Neb. (Sept. 7, 2016) – Jack Dover was so good during the RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Nationals last weekend he beat the other 100-plus competitors with only seven cylinders.

Dover guided the Chris Roseland owned 305ci winged sprint car to the marquee event win at Eagle Raceway for the second time in the last three years. It gives him 12 feature victories on the season, which is only three wins away from tying his career best.

“It was great all weekend,” he said. “When you have 117 guys there that are really equal, to come out ahead it says something. I can’t thank Chris Roseland enough for giving me great equipment and the opportunity for driving his car. I also want to thank Steve, Dave and Rick for helping crew.”

The weekend began on Friday when Dover maneuvered from third to win a heat race.

“It’s all luck of the draw,” he said. “I went up there and drew the 61. That put us second row inside for the heat. I knew I had to win it because there were 15 or 16 heats and everyone who won a heat locked in.”

Dover then redrew the No. 4 to start the main event on the outside of the second row.

“We got the lead before we got to the flag stand,” he said. “I got a phenomenal start. I split first and second through the middle and led the whole race.”

The victory locked Dover into the pole position for Sunday’s main event.

“We got the lead about Lap 3 or 4,” he said. “The leader was running the bottom and I moved up. I just set sail and passed him. I started running the top in turns one and two and the middle in turns three and four. About 10 laps in we lost a cylinder. We ran the last 25 laps with seven cylinders. The track started slicking off so you didn’t need all the power. Also my car was hooked up that good.”

Dover also competed on Friday night in the Race of Champions. He charged from seventh to second place in a heat race before maneuvering from fifth to second place in the main event.

“We just cruised around searching for lines,” he said. “We ran third most of the race. On the last corner I got by Blake Robertson for second place. We both got close to Jason Martin for the lead at one point, but we got strung out in traffic.”

Dover will return to action this Friday at Eagle Raceway for the Nebraska Cup and Saturday at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., with the Carpetland Nebraska 360 Sprints. He is also planning to compete on Sunday at Badlands Motor Speedway in Brandon, S.D.
