Keith Rauch Crowned 2009 RMMRA Driver Champion

Wheat Ridge, CO – Driver champion Keith Rauch and car owner Rossi Enterprise headlined the list of honorees at the annual Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association (RMMRA) awards banquet Saturday Night at the Copper Fields Events Chateau. The annual event brought the curtain down on the 70th anniversary season for the RMMRA, the second oldest Midget organization in the United States. This year guest of honor was Ade Butler along with Mitch Miller providing story’s from the past 70 years of the RMMRA.

Keith won eight features this year, and beat Tony Rossi by 122 points in the Driver Championship while Rossi won the Owners Championship. Along with his third RMMRA Driver Championship and eight features wins, Rauch is now seventh in all-time Colorado Midgets feature wins with 46; 43-RMMRA, 2-AIMS and 1-USAC plus other feature wins in other racing series in his career.

Other awards winners were; Bill Taylor (Championship Mechanic), Mark Matjeka (Mechanic of the Year), Brian Postle (“Robert L. Gigout Memorial” and the “Curt Stockwell Memorial” Sportsmanship Award), Julee Jamison (“Dave Wagner Memorial” Most Improved Driver), Mike Lucero (“Ed Jackson Memorial” for Significant Contribution to Midget Racing), Petauro Racing (Best Looking Car), Tony Rossi/Rossi Enterprise (Best Looking Crew).

Sonny Coleman, the 1950 RMMRA Champion was presented a RMMRA Driver Championship Jacket and Boysen Loesch outgoing President was presented a picture provided by RMMRA Historian Gary Martelon and 2010 Broad Member Ewen Rees. All awards winners were presented a canvas prints provided by Ewen Rees and Don Holbrook.

Newly elected President Greg Schaefer addressed the attendees about the 2010 season. Talk about the schedule, sponsorships, etc. and looking forward on continues growth and success of the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association.
