Thorley, Woods In Control Of Qld Sprintcar Point Chases

From JAK Media

Pete Thorley and Allan Woods head into this weekend’s sixth Round of the 2009/10 Qld Speedway Spares Series at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway (BIS) with two objectives; win the twenty-five lap Feature event and preserve their respective leads in the Qld Sprintcar point chases.

Thorley tops the Series points table, albeit by only a slim margin of ten points over Peter Lack, as the Series reaches its halfway point and he has the opportunity to at least consolidate if not extend that lead with another solid result tomorrow night. Lack’s name is a welcome addition to this week’s BIS nominations list, the GW Racing team reportedly by-passing the Grand Annual Classic but heading to Warrnambool for Tuesday’s event at that venue to honour their Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars commitments.

Woods leads the Sprintcars Qld Club Championship points and like Thorley, is in the box seat to hold onto that lead past this weekend. With the Club Championship encompassing races not only at BIS but also regional venues, Woods’ results to date this season give him a sixteen point lead over David Muir with Thorley a further thirteen points back and from out of the chase for Club honours this season.

Twenty-nine drivers have filed their entries for Round 6 of the Qld Speedway Spares Series, including Melissa Boyes who makes her return to racing after an extended lay-off and Sprintcar new-comer Steven Johnson.

Cody Maroske headlines the list of fourteen ASCF Junior Sedans nominations for Round 6 of the Comfort Inn Robertson Gardens Series, the newly crowned Australian Champion chasing back to back BIS Feature race wins on his return to his home track after winning the National Title in Tasmania last weekend.

Saturday night’s pre-Australia Day celebration program at Archerfield also features a Crazy Car, Caravan, Boat And Dunny Race, Fireworks for the kids and a host of support class racing action. Early racing from 5:00pm, main program from 6:00pm.
